A blepharoplasty is a procedure offered to people who have excess skin and fat on their upper or lower eyelid. Eyelid laxity can cause cosmetic dissatisfaction or, in severe cases, may interfere with vision.
The excess skin from the eyelids is removed. Underlying fat may be removed or redistributed in order to correct the appearance of the eyelid bags. The scars are well disguised in the natural lines along the eyelids.
Initial bruising and swelling usually settles within 2 weeks after upper blepharoplasty surgery. With lower blepharoplasty surgery it may take up to 3 weeks to settle. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 6 weeks. The scars usually settle over time.
The potential complications and risks of eyelid surgery will be discussed in detail with you at your consultation with Dr Pyragius.
